Civitech's client, the New Democratic Party of Manitoba (“Manitoba NDP”), recently became the first province in Canada to elect a government with a First Nations member at the head.
The people of Manitoba elected First Nations member Wab Kinew as Premier in a historic first for the province. The NDP also won 34 of the 57 electoral districts in Manitoba — enough to form a majority government.
Kinew’s election is especially significant since Indigenous Canadians were not allowed to vote until 1960. Several Aboriginal rights weren’t fully recognized until 1982.
Kinew and NDP ran on expanding healthcare and affordable housing in Manitoba.
The party used our TextOut platform for various voter outreach programs, including recruiting for events, fundraising, and get-out-the-vote (GOTV) messages.
With more than 60,000 texts sent and a 9% response rate, the Manitoba NDP’s texting campaigns helped spread their message and drive historic change.
This is an exciting win for the New Democratic Party of Manitoba and Indigenous representation in government. We are humbled to be part of this historical moment and the growth of fairer democracy everywhere.
