Austin, TX and New York, NY — Civitech announced that it is raising over $10 million in Series A funding with financing led by Higher Ground Labs. The funding round gave Civitech a $50 million valuation and attracted financing from Scout Ventures, Gaingels, and other investors, and underscores Civitech’s position as a leader in the Democratic and progressive technology space.
“Civitech has quickly become a major player in the progressive technology ecosystem, working with leading Democratic organizations to engage voters and win,” said Higher Ground Labs Co-Founder Betsy Hoover. “During the last election cycle, Civitech developed innovative tools to register voters, help voters cast their ballot, and streamline campaign processes. We know Civitech will continue to build industry-leading products that support Democrats in 2022 and beyond.”
The Series A funding round lands right as Civitech has reached an agreement with KnockCo to acquire KnockCo and its TextOut technology. As a part of the deal, Civitech will integrate KnockCo’s products and technology into its suite of tools and services.
The integration of KnockCo’s TextOut product into Civitech’s digital campaign platform and data tools would make contacting voters even more seamless. Almost all employees at KnockCo will be joining the Civitech team as a part of the deal, which represents Civitech’s second major acquisition this year after acquiring Alloy’s data and mobilization products.
“I am incredibly proud of the tools we’ve developed and deeply grateful for the brilliant staff that has helped us build this company,” said Elizabeth Haynes, Founder of KnockCo. “From day one, we set out to change the way organizations and campaigns and their volunteers talked with those they wished to mobilize, organize, and educate. Since its launch, our TextOut software has reached millions of Americans to register to vote, to cast their vote, and to access local Covid-19 vaccination opportunities. Becoming part of the Civitech family will only enable TextOut to have an even greater impact as we look ahead to the future. We couldn’t be more excited about what’s next for TextOut.”
Civitech is a public benefit corporation that builds technology and data tools to increase civic participation. In the 2020 election, they partnered with well over 100 organizations to make it cost effective to register voters and help voters request a vote-by-mail ballot — together reaching tens of millions of voters.
